Getting things done in Mission Hills. My office worked with the Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Street Services to resurface Woodman Avenue from Devonshire St. to San Jose St. Please contact my field offices if there are streets in your neighborhood that need to be resurfaced or restriped. New stop signs in Sylmar! Local residents contacted my office about the dangerous traffic intersection at Borden Avenue and Beaver Street. My office worked with the Department of Transportation to install four new stop signs, proper street markings, and new red curbs at this intersection. During these difficult times, we’ve seen an increase in need for meal programs and longer lines at food pantries. Through local partnerships, my team and I have delivered thousands of meals to families and homebound seniors, and have been inspired by the care and commitment of our volunteers.

Today, Team MRod partnered with the Valley Intercommunity Council to deliver over 440 meals to homebound seniors across our district.

If you know of any seniors or families in need of meals or groceries, please contact my office at (Pacoima City Hall) 818-485-0600 or (Sylmar District Office) 818-756-8409. You can also visit any one of eight food pantries in the 7th District.

Gyms and fitness facilities

Employees and customers will be screened for symptoms. Gym-goers feeling unwell should reschedule their appointment.

Staff must wear a cloth face covering at all times.

Gym-goers must wear a cloth face covering when entering and exiting the gym and it is recommended that they are worn while exercising in the gym.

Physical distancing must be maintained and equipment may be rearranged to allow for that.

Reservations for a time at the gym are recommended as occupancy will be limited.

Equipment must be cleaned before and after each use with provided disinfecting wipes or the gym must provide “ready to clean” tags for staff to clean the equipment after each use.

Personal trainers must maintain six feet of distance from their clients and wear a face covering. Clients are strongly encouraged to wear a face-covering while receiving instruction

Group exercise classes can only be offered if distancing requirements can be maintained and there is no person-to-person physical contact.

Pools at fitness facilities may reopen once employees properly clean and disinfect for use in accordance with the Center for Disease Control guidelines.

Saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs remain closed.

Sidewalk Cleaning

I’m pleased to share the progress in Sylmar. My team identified a sidewalk segment along Laurel Canyon Blvd. between Hubbard Street and Rincon Ave. that was blocked by overgrown vegetation. My office worked closely with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps Clean and Green Program to clear and abate vegetation and trash which resulted in:

✅ 2,595 ft. of sidewalk clearance
✅ 2,130 pounds of trash collected
✅ 3,750 square feet of vegetation removed
✅ 62 trash bags collected
