Operation Bright S.P.O.T., a program I developed and funded to supplement city services, was back at it again! They were out at several locations, including Sunland-Tujunga and Pacoima, removing old tree stumps. These before and afters show the difference that our efforts are making, and I hope you enjoy seeing the results as much as I do.

If you have a location in mind that may benefit from Operation Bright S.P.O.T. because urgent assistance is required, the area is hard to access, or the request has gone unaddressed for a significant period of time, please call my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

Beginning Monday, October 17, the Section 8 Housing Program Application will open for the first time in nearly 5 years!
Section 8 is a federally-funded housing subsidy program that assists low-income families, the disabled or the elderly close the financial gap between what they can afford to pay for decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.

This resource is sorely needed, and demand is expected to exceed supply. While I continue to work to deliver more affordable housing options for all income levels, this program remains a primary resource for many in our community who are housing insecure.

I applaud Governor Gavin Newsom for signing into law Assembly Bill 1801 and establishing Genocide Remembrance Day as a state holiday.

Every April 24, Californians will now have the opportunity to reflect on past and present atrocities—including the Armenian Genocide.

Council District 7 and the City of Los Angeles is home to a large Armenian community. I know how much this means to them after fighting for generations to be formally recognized, and I look forward to continuing to stand in solidarity with them every April 24th at the March for Justice.

This year, I sent 7 bills to the California Governor’s desk, and I am happy to say that once again ALL my bills have been signed!
This could not have been done without my incredible team. The work you do does not go unnoticed, and I am extremely grateful for your efforts.
I am also appreciative of #AD39 for voicing their concerns to me and letting me know what changes and improvements they would like to see in their district and the state.

Congratulations to DIY Girls for celebrating its 10th anniversary!

DIY Girls continues to have a positive influence on young girls in the San Fernando Valley. DIY Girls has increased girls’ interest and success in technology and engineering through innovative educational experiences and mentorship opportunities. This organization inspires the next generation of young women to pursue a career in the STEM field.
I am proud to see how this nonprofit has developed since I established it in 2012. As a state legislator, I remain committed to expanding STEM educational opportunities to young girls in #AD39 as a means of closing the educational digital divide across the state!

September marks Firefighter Appreciation Month, and I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the brave men and women who selflessly serve in the fire service.

Both as the daughter of an LA City Firefighter—who is now retired—and the Chair of Public Safety, I know too often the sacrifices that are made to serve in this pivotal role.

If you would like a speed hump on your block to help reduce vehicular speed, the 2022 Speed Hump Program application will be opening next Thursday, October 6 at 9:00 AM! Applications can only be submitted online, and I encourage you to submit applications ASAP because the application period will close when 375 applications (25 in each Council District) have been submitted.
This initial application does not guarantee a speed hump. LADOT will still need to determine if your block meets the speed hump guidelines.
