Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez Desk - Remembering Kobe Bryant

LA is mourning the loss of our beloved Laker who rocked the court for Los Angeles. His unbelievable talent and spirit will be missed. We are also devastated to hear about the loss of Gianna Bryant, Kobe’s 13 year old daughter and the other families impacted by this unfathomable tragedy. Keeping all the impacted families in our prayers. #KobeBryant

When a resident contacted my Sylmar district office regarding overgrown vegetation and encampments along the Sylmar Creek in between Glenoaks Blvd. and Bledsoe St. in Sylmar, my office began to work in collaboration with LA Sanitation to abate and provide much-needed services to this creek. LA Sanitation’s team will continue to work south along the creek in the coming weeks.
Here is a look at what we’ve done so far!

Sylmar Creek/ Glenoaks Blvd. and Bledsoe St.

– 500 Clean-up hours with our Los Angeles Conservation Corps contracted crew

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez - Operation Bright SPOT

In November 2019, I launched Operation Bright SPOT (Strategic Partnership Outfoxing Trash) in partnership with NEGB- Northeast Graffiti Busters, the Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment, and the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services. This program cleans business corridors and delivers long-overdue services to the 7th Council District. Through a targeted cleanup plan, Operation Bright Spot team members conduct street sweeping, red curb painting, graffiti removal, weed abatement, bulky item pick up, gum removal, and power washing of sidewalks. I secured $200,000 to fund Operation Bright Spot and the district wide program will extend through the end of 2020.

This month, Operation Bright Spot brought its services to North Hills. For the week of January 6th to January 10th, the Operation Bright Spot team focused on Nordoff Street from Orion Avenue to Sepulveda Boulevard. The team repainted existing red curbs, removed gum off sidewalks, power washed sidewalks, picked up illegal dumping and swept our streets. These efforts ensure our community stays clean and beautiful. See a business corridor in need of cleaning? Call my district office at 818-485-0600.

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez - Traffic Safety Improvements

Please join my office and the LADOT Official at the upcoming Foothill Trails District Neighborhood Council Meeting to hear updates and to discuss traffic safety improvements along Foothill Boulevard in Lake View Terrace on February 20 at 7:00 pm at the Lake View Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Blvd.

In late October, a tragic collision killed two horses and severely injured their riders as they were riding along Foothill Blvd in Lake View Terrace. In November 2019, I introduced a motion directing our City departments, such as LADOT and the Bureau of Street Lighting, to work on a safety improvement plan for the existing conditions on this road and create a contiguous bridle path throughout the area, providing a safe space for riders off of the physical road. The safety on our streets, sidewalks, and bridle paths is one of my top priorities, and I am working on a holistic approach to enhance public safety throughout the 7th Council District.

We encourage the community to attend and share your thoughts on how we can better improve safety along Foothill Blvd for all users of the road. All users of the road are welcome to attend.

For more information call my district office at 818-485-0600.

STNC - Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Community Survey

Sharing the following notice regarding a survey that is coming our way. As soon as the survey link arrives, we’ll post it here and distribute.

Dear Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Board members,

We are Masters in Public Policy students from USC’s Price School of Public Policy. It is our great pleasure to e-introduce ourselves!

As part of our Master’s Capstone project, our team is working in conjunction with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to assist in the creation of their Standards of Cover (SoC) report. This report is critical for LA communities as it helps inform LAFD as to where emergency resources are needed across the City of Los Angeles. For the first phase of the project, we have developed an electronic survey in order to collect community feedback to inform our report. We are distributing the survey next week to the entire LA neighborhood council system and would greatly appreciate your participation.

The survey is intended to (1) gauge public perception on LAFD’s performance (medical services, fire services, and community outreach) and (2) determine what resources your community needs to match LAFD capabilities. The data collected will provide insight into how the LAFD is meeting community expectations and help to develop strategic actions the LAFD can take to best serve your community.

We believe the LA neighborhood council system is the perfect group to provide the type of feedback LAFD needs to inform their SoC report. As members of neighborhood councils, you are some of the most engaged citizens and represent LA’s expansive and diverse communities. You and your council’s feedback is vital to inform LAFD on the necessary services your community needs most.

If you have any questions regarding the survey or the project itself, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully,
USC LAFD Practicum Team
