Speed Hump Applications Are Back

“Mark your calendars, speed hump applications are back starting January 29, 2020 at 8 am! Please take advantage of this process as the Los Angeles Department of Transportation opens up its speed hump application cycle twice each year. It is recommended that residents file as soon as possible. The application is a competitive process and includes a review of the neighborhood’s eligibility, collection of speed, and volume data.

A resident in La Tuna Canyon gathered the necessary signatures to submit an application for Penrose Street during a previous speed hump application cycle, and the speed humps were installed last year (shown below). Local residents have noticed a decrease in speeding in the area. If you are interested in applying for a speed hump, begin your application here: https://ladot.lacity.org/how-do-i/request-speed-humps”

Once upon a time, there was a child who could listen to stories all day long! Once that child was there in all of us, just like the kids today who enjoy a good story while their mind runs wild with imagination. The fairy-tale characters, the plot twists, and the magical places fascinate them, as they are transported to new worlds. That said, storytelling for kids is an art and not an easy one at that.

That ‘art’ would be conducted by the Sunland – Tujunga Branch Library of Los Angeles Public Library on January 08, 2020 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Story-telling and games for children will be done at Sunland – Tujunga Branch Library.

Paul Koretz

On Thursday, Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz announced that he will run for city controller in March 2022. He assured that his management expertise on public funds and his efforts to enact government policies has made him a qualified candidate.

“I have always been passionate about government efficiency, so we can avoid waste and use city funds exclusively to improve the service city government provides for our residents,” Koretz said. “That’s why I am running for city controller.”

Paul Koretz has served on the L.A. City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee since being elected in 2009. As a council member, he said he “spent a lot of time and effort looking for efficiencies that can save the city money, and I have found a number of them over the years.”

Koretz also once chaired the council’s Audits and Government Efficiency Committee, which has since been dissolved.

Under Los Angeles city rules, Koretz will be able to establish a campaign committee and begin official campaign activities in March of this year.

According to Koretz, 90 current and former elected officials have already endorsed him for the office, although no other candidate appears to have entered the race this early.

The endorsements include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Council President Herb Wesson, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle, State Treasurer Fiona Ma and Los Angeles City Council members Curren Price, Bob Blumenfield, Jose Huizar, Monica Rodriguez, and Martinez. Koretz said he also has endorsements from unions including United Firefighters of Los Angeles and community leaders.

Current City Controller Ron Galperin will be termed out by the next election.

On Thursday, Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul

“It has been an incredible year serving as your Los Angeles City Councilwoman. As 2019 nears it’s end, I’m excited to share the accomplishments we’ve achieved together this year. We provided support to families in need, repaired decades-old infrastructure, prepared our community for emergencies, and brought cultural celebrations to our neighborhoods. It has been an incredibly busy and memorable year, and it is an honor to work with you all to build a better City. I am excited about our continued progress in 2020, and I look forward to our continued work together to ensure our neighborhoods achieve their greatest potential.

Special thanks to L.A. This Week  for producing the video.
