Protecting CD7 Families
Protecting CD7 Families

As part of my commitment to creating a safer and healthier environment in the 7th Council District, today the Council approved my legislation towards environmental and economic justice for the residents of Pacoima and the surrounding neighborhoods in response to the recent Whiteman Airport accident in Pacoima.

The residents of the Northeast Valley deserve the same considerations as communities in Santa Monica and I call on the County to make immediate investments and seriously evaluate alternative uses for the property to provide economic opportunity, housing and open space for this community. It’s long past due to deliver substantial economic investment and environmental justice for a community that has borne the burden and no benefit from operations.

Upcoming Project at Telfair Ave and Montague Street
Upcoming Project at Telfair Ave and Montague Street

We need your input to make sure the upcoming project at Telfair Ave and Montague Street reflects our voices. LADOT Official is working to enhance the intersection of Telfair Avenue and Montague Street in Pacoima with a minor-roundabout, crosswalks, curb ramps, and new sidewalks. The enhancement is designed to calm traffic and create a safer, more “people-friendly” intersection.

Telfair and Montague connect with many neighborhood destinations and future investments along the Pacoima Wash. This project envisions a “hub” for a network of local streets that will safely connect people to places, whether you drive, bike, or walk.

The project is in the design phase. Find more information and sign up for updates at https://ladotlivablestreets.org/projects/Telfair-Montague

I convened the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management hearing. Thank you to our Vice-Chair, Senator Mike McGuire, Dr. Richard Pan, State Senator, Assemblyman Tom Lackey, and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, and our panelists for participating emergency management hearing. This hearing addressed issues with our state’s fragmented emergency alert systems, unacceptably low resident sign-up rates, the consequences of neglecting emergency and evacuation warnings systems, and emergency notification deficiencies that contributed to the loss of lives this year.
