As part of my continued effort to elevate youth voice and participation in the City of Los Angeles, I’m proud to announce that last month marked the culmination of the Council District 7 Youth Council. Twenty-three youth participated, representing each neighborhood across the 7th Council District. Youth council members spent the last ten-months identifying neighborhood issues and working as a team to develop strategies and solutions. This week they had the opportunity to present their ideas to local policymakers from the Los Angeles Youth Development Department, Housing + Community Investment Department, and LA Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department.

The pandemic has devastated working families in my district. Many students are in need and may not have the resources to purchase new backpacks.
That’s why my district office will be hosting a Backpack Collection Drive beginning tomorrow, August 2nd thru August 13th.
Backpacks will be donated to the Child Care Resource Center, who will distribute to their network of needy students in #AD39.

Yesterday, MRod Volunteer Corps was in Sylmar. We cleared debris, illegal dumping, and completed beautification projecs such a weed abatement to improve the area. I created the MRod Volunteer Corps, to identify and engage individuals in the community who want to be part of the solution to address the quality of life issues that impact our neighborhoods.
Together, we can sustain the cleanliness of our neighborhoods. I invite you to join me and your neighbors to be part of the solution by joining an upcoming clean up, picking up litter in your own neighborhood, and reporting issues like illegal dumping to MyLA 311.

MRod Volunteer Corps is coming to Sylmar!

From Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez Desk – Progress of the Summit View Apartments

Check out the progress of the Summit View Apartments in Lakeview Terrace. This project will serve as supportive housing for our homeless veterans. From improving service coordination through the Council District 7 Homeless Task Force, to building housing for homeless men, women, and veterans, and supporting partnerships for the creation of a family navigation center, the Summit View Apartments builds on these efforts I have led to address the homeless crisis in our community.

This project leverages unused city-owned parcels to provide our vets with a safe place to call home. I’m proud to fulfill this mission to support the men and women who have given so much of themselves in service to our country. Thank you to LA Family Housing and Many Mansions for your partnership to make this project possible.

From Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez Desk – Oro Vista Avenue Green Infrastructure Corridor Project

Join a virtual, interactive community meeting on Thursday, August 5, 2021, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM to learn more about the Oro Vista Avenue Green Infrastructure Corridor Project. The project is a Safe Clean Water Program-funded project led by the City of Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment. The goal is to transform a traditionally-designed street located in the community of Sunland into a green infrastructure corridor to simultaneously improve water quality, increase water supply, reduce area flooding, and create community enhancements.
