How to Identify A Census Worker

Reminder! Census Workers are going to households that have not filled out their #2020Census to conduct door-to-door interviews. If a Census Workers comes to your door, here is a graphic to help you identify them.
The #Census does not have questions on citizenship, and all your personal information will be protected. Please answer all questions as accurately as possible because the Census determines the amount of funding and resources that comes to #AD39 for the next 10 years.

Back to School Fair in Sylmar

This year, the first week of school may look a little different. To support families in Sylmar, we hosted a Back to School Fair to provide important resources to assure students are not left behind as a result of the pandemic. If you know of students and families that are still in need of housing, education, or other services, you can contact my office or one of the organizations below. The resources are free and we're here to help our youth have a strong academic school year. 🧒 📚My office – Pacoima City Hall (818) 485-0600 or Sylmar District Office (818) 756-8409LA Family Housing → housing services 🏠 School on Wheels → tutoring and education services for children 👩‍🏫 Los Angeles Public Library → educational materials and entertainment 📚 Los Angeles Unified School District → information on public schools 🎒 North Valley Caring Services → services for youth and homeless individuals 🧒

Gwen Moore

Deeply saddened by the loss of former California Assemblywoman Gwen Moore. Gwen was a huge champion for creating greater access to women and minority communities.
I had the privilege of working with Gwen while serving as a Commissioner on the Board of Public Works, and I was honored to have this passionate advocate present me an award for my efforts to expand opportunities for women and minority businesses.
In Gwen’s memory, let us continue the fight to expand opportunities for everyone to achieve that access. We must right this wrong that has held so many back by passing Proposition 16 this November.
Our communities are better for her example and leadership and I will be forever honored to have known her. May she Rest In Peace.

Newsom Approves New Ethnic Studies Requirement

Earlier this week, the Governor signed AB 1460 (Assemblymember Shirley Weber) to require ethnic studies course focused on one of four ethnic groups (Latino or Latina, African American, Asian American or Native American studies) is a CSU graduation requirement. I voted proudly in support of AB 1460 because ethnic studies is the history of us. Our people, contributions, culture, and traditions play an integral part in shaping American history and is what makes America great. It is time our histories are widely accessible, represented and taught in classrooms.

Ratification of the #19thAmendment
Ratification of the #19thAmendment

Today is the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the #19thAmendment, which granted women the right to vote in the U.S. It took many more decades before all women were able to exercise their right to vote. Now, we have women elected into office!
I am proud to celebrate 100 Years of Women’s Right to vote with intelligent, strong, and bold women. #womensrighttovote #suffrage #votewomen

PostalService
PostalService

I joined 53 of my colleagues calling Congress to take action and immediately shield the #PostalService. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy heard our outrage and just announced that he will suspend the controversial changes he instituted to the U.S. Postal Service until after the November election. While this is a major win to preserve democracy prior to the election, we must continue to apply pressure to #SaveTheUSPostalService after the election because:
-#USPS employees are #essentialworkers,
-USPS employs members of our community,
-USPS is the single largest employers of veterans,
-Our mail gets delivered regardless of weather conditions, and
-USPS ensures medical devices, medication, food, and other essential goods are delivered to households, particularly for seniors, people with disabilities and hard to reach areas.

LAPD to Announce a Combined $150,000 Reward
LAPD to Announce a Combined $150,000 Reward

This morning I joined LAPD to announce a combined $150,000 reward for information regarding the murders of Davon Pledger, Omar Medina, and Michael Kelly.
These murders are an absolute tragedy and the young men were gunned down in seemingly random acts of gun violence. We need the community’s help to investigate these murders.
If you were a witness and your tip leads to an arrest, you are eligible to receive a $50,000 reward for your information. A witness is considered any person who may have heard the gun shots, tires screeching away, or relaying information they heard throughout their community.
I share my deepest condolences with these families — they deserve justice and peace.
Thank you to our detectives and law enforcement teams for their ongoing effort in this investigation.
For more information and how to report an anonymous tip to the LAPD, read the reward notices in this post.
