With warmer weather in the forecast and businesses opening, it may feel like the pandemic has ended. However, our City now has more confirmed COVID-19 cases than ever. SYLMAR and PACOIMA rank among the top five communities with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the City of LA.

If you plan to leave your house this weekend, I urge you to keep 6 feet from other people, wash your hands frequently, and wear a mask. Following the rules will protect our families, frontline workers, first responders, and neighbors. It takes all of us working together to save lives.

I also encourage you to get tested at a City testing center — tests are free and available to all LA County residents. Schedule an appointment online: https://corona-virus.la/covid-19-testing.

Essential Protective Gear Drive Up Distribution
Essential Protective Gear Drive Up Distribution

This past Saturday, I partnered with the Personal Assistance Services Council of Los Angeles for an essential protective gear drive up distribution for In Home Supportive Service Providers and consumers in the San Fernando Valley. Attendees received a care package of gloves, water, and n95 masks. I am grateful to our hardworking IHSS workers who have been serving our residents during this trying time and I was happy to support over 300 providers and consumers!

Report Illegal Fireworks
Report Illegal Fireworks

Our local LAPD Foothill and Mission Divisions have seen an average of 3.5 times more calls regarding illegal fireworks this year compared to last. Officers are working to confiscate more illegal fireworks.

Here’s how you can report illegal fireworks in your neighborhood:

➡️ Submit an anonymous tip lacrimestoppers.org

➡️ Report illegal fireworks activity online: https://complaint.lacity.org/Complaint/fireworks

➡️ Call the non-emergency police hotline 877-ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273).

➡️ Call your local Senior Lead officer (SLO). To find your SLO, view the maps. If an address is provided, Officers will conduct visits. Keep in mind that officers must witness the infraction to cite an individual and may confiscate fireworks.

➡️ Call my field office: Pacoima City Hall (818) 485-0600 or Sylmar District Office (818) 756-8409.

Last year, #AD39 was unfortunately impacted by the #SaddleridgeFire. I know firsthand that the decisions made during an emergency, the way, and type of information that is communicated to our communities can alter the outcome and impacts to our communities. I am honored to announce that Speaker Anthony Rendon has appointed me as the Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management. As we are approaching wildfire season during a global pandemic, it is vital that we have plans on how to mitigate fires while keeping our emergency responders and community members safe.
