Thank you to Biocom California for inviting me to be a keynote speaker at their 5th annual Life Sciences Industry CEO Summit!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to discuss the importance of STEM education. As an engineer and the founder of a STEM nonprofit, I can attest to our youth’s enthusiasm for STEM. We need to give them the tools they need to succeed, which is why these conversations are so important across California.

I’m proud to announce that I’ve introduced a bill to rename the Glendale post office at 6444 San Fernando Road in honor of former U.S. Navy Secretary Paul Ignatius – the son of one of the first Armenian families to settle in Glendale, and at one point the highest-ranking Armenian American in the U.S. government.

Paul Ignatius was born in Glendale in 1920, to Armenian immigrants who escaped horrific persecution overseas. After serving in the Navy during World War II and graduating from Harvard Business School, Paul joined the Department of Defense and quickly rose through the ranks under both Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. In 1967, President Johnson appointed him to be the 59th U.S. Secretary of the Navy – and he became the highest-ranking Armenian American in the U.S. military.

To this day, Paul continues to be a champion of the Armenian community in California, ensuring the Armenian story will be shared with generations of people to come through his work on the USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies National Honorary Council and as a supporter of the Armenian American Museum.

As Paul prepares to celebrate his 102nd birthday next month, I’m thrilled to honor his many years of service to our country, and especially to the Armenian American community.

I’m glad to see President Biden is embracing a tax on Big Oil’s exorbitant profits.

I’ve introduced the bill to make that happen – and to immediately lower prices at the gas pump.

Working families need relief far more than Big Oil’s shareholders need payouts. Congress should take this up ASAP.

This morning, I was happy to meet with the Chief Executive Office of Los Angeles County in order to discuss issues impacting the San Fernando Valley and the region such as Extreme Heat and Homelessness.

This year, the Governor signed my bill, AB 2238, to create a statewide early warning and ranking system for upcoming extreme heat events to better prepare Californians. I was happy to discuss how legislation like #AB2238 will save lives in our district.

I look forward to continuing to advance priorities and ideals that directly benefit our communities as the newly elected Chair for the Los Angeles County Delegation in the State Legislature.

As a member of the Latino Caucus and an advocate for equity, I was thrilled to join my colleagues in celebrating the $15 million investment to fund the Latina Futures, 2050 Lab at UCLA’s LPPI Institute.

Through new research, this funding will help address the growing inequality among Latinas in a variety of areas such as careers and leadership opportunities. Thank you for your leadership in these equity initiatives, UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute, UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC), Senator María Elena Durazo, and Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes!

I won my primary race in June by the largest margin of victory of anyone running in the City of Los Angeles, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support.
