Thank you to all the community partners who made this possible, including Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, and Councilmember Paul Krekorian. Together we can work to end homelessness!

Maintenance SWARM Operation
Maintenance SWARM Operation

COVID-19 has created many operational challenges to properly clean up and service our state property such as freeways and underpasses. After several conversations and meetings between Caltrans District 7 and myself, I am excited to announce that Caltrans will be conducting clean-ups across #AD39 this weekend!

Caltrans will be conducting a Maintenance SWARM Operation on Saturday, February 6th at the following sites:
🚧Westbound 118 at San Fernando Rd off and on-ramps
🚧Mainline from San Fernando on-ramp through the 5 FWY
🚧Westbound 118 and 5 Fwy through Laurel Canyon

While this is a great start, there are other areas that are still in need of attention and we are continuing to collaborate to address these other areas of critical need.

If you’re interested in volunteering to help clean up this weekend, please contact my office at (818) 504-3911.

My Operation Bright S.P.O.T. Team
My Operation Bright S.P.O.T. Team

Since its launch in 2019, my Operation Bright S.P.O.T. team has been busy cleaning the major commercial corridors in our district. A recent clean up in Mission Hills on the Sepulveda Boulevard corridor, Chatsworth Street and Remick Avenue. We removed overgrown vegetation, cleaned up litter and graffiti, and power washed heavily trafficked sidewalks. Overgrown vegetation is not just an eyesore – when it blocks walkways, it creates a public safety hazard by forcing pedestrians off the sidewalk and onto the edge of the road.

In the next few weeks, the Operation Bright S.P.O.T fox is going to be busy cleaning up a commercial corridor near you. If you spot the fox in your neighborhood, snap a pic and share and tag us on Facebook @MonicaRodriguezCD7, Instagram @mrodcd7 or twitter @MRodCD7 with #spotthefoxcd7.

If you see a similar situation in your neighborhood, please do not hesitate to call my Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600 or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287. You can also report it directly to our city crews via 311. It’s free, easy, and can be done in three options:
-Dial 311 from your phone
-Report on their website, https://myla311.lacity.org/
-Download and use the “MyLA311” app from your smartphone.

Since its launch in 2019,

This morning, I’m joining Mayor Eric Garcetti, Meta Housing, LA Family Housing, Los Angeles County Development Authority, and Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department for a groundbreaking at Silva Crossing. I am proud to see this project come into fruition during the pandemic to serve as supportive housing for Northeast San Fernando Valley Angelenos that are experiencing homelessness. This project will be an important community anchor for the San Fernando Road corridor, which will be home to the Sylmar segment of the future East San Fernando Valley Transportation Corridor light rail.

This project will provide 56 units of supportive housing, and was made possible in part by $10.9 million of voter-approved HHH bond funding. From improving service coordination through the Council District 7 Homeless Task Force, building housing for homeless women and veterans, to supporting partnerships for the creation of a family navigation center, Silva Crossing builds on these efforts I have led to address the homeless crisis in our community.

Investing in people by providing housing is a collaborative effort between government and nonprofits. I am proud to bring new housing to our Sylmar community, and I look forward to continued collaboration as we work toward bringing all types of housing to our district.
