Did you know that each resident that completes the 2020 census brings approximately $1,950 in federal funding per person, per year? That’s $19,500 over a decade to your community for use in:
• Law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency services
• Schools, school lunches, housing
• Healthcare and hospitals
• Public transit system and road repair
• Vital services for families, seniors, and children such as Medicaid, Head Start, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• Block grants for community mental health services
Communities like ours have been historically undercounted — in the 2010 Census, neighborhoods in the Northeast San Fernando Valley scored among the highest in low census participation. In Los Angeles, only 53% of households have responded to the 2020 census. That means our city will lack sufficient resources for the next 10 years.
It is critical to make sure you and your family are counted. Complete your census today! https://bit.ly/2YwGpwv

Getting tested helps the City understand what areas need the most public health support. When you arrive, please bring your insurance card (though you will not be charged) or government-issued ID.
These are challenging times, and I want to thank you for your efforts in containing the spread of COVID-19 infections in Los Angeles. It demonstrates that our combined efforts in getting tested, wearing a face covering, staying home when possible, and washing your hands with soap, do work to contain the spread.
Please encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and customers to follow these basic steps. It will take all of us working together to end this pandemic.

Support of SB 793

We are in the final week of our Legislative Session. Today, I voted in strong support of SB 793 to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products to protect our children from being harmed by tobacco and vape products, and becoming addicted to nicotine. The Tobacco Industry purposely targets teens and their efforts have been successful because in the last 2 years vaping has increased by 218% among middle schoolers, and 97% of kids who vape use flavors. This needs to stop! I voted in support SB 793 because I support our children!

We are in the final week of

For five years, the residents on Eustace Street in Pacoima have had to live alongside an unsafe, abandoned property located on the 13000 block on Eustace Street. In response to reports from residents, my office coordinated with the City’s Department of Building and Safety to expedite an abatement order, schedule demolition, and begin clean up.
Together, we impounded four junk vehicles, secured the back fence, demolished all structures, and removed debris from the property. The work was completed on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
It takes all of us working together to ensure our community is well taken care of. If you notice a similar situation in your neighborhood, please report it to 311 immediately.
It’s free, easy, and can be done in three options:
— Dial 3 1 1 from your phone
— Download and use the “MyLA311” app from your smartphone
— Call the Bureau of Sanitation Customer Service Center (800) 773-2489
If you have any questions about this notice, please:
1. Call my office at Pacoima City Hall at (818) 485-0600 (hablamos Español)
2. Fill out this online request form: https://bit.ly/cd7requestform

I would like to thank the Federal Government for acknowledging the many highly destructive and fast moving fires burning throughout CA by issuing a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration today.
Our brave women and men on the front lines of these fires are risking everything to keep us safe.
