Assemblymember Luz Rivas - Partnered with Mason Controls in Sylmar to Help Distribute over 250 Face Shields

I partnered with Mason Controls in Sylmar to help distribute over 250 face shields that they engineered for organizations that are going above and beyond the call of duty during these trying times. We have heroes in doctors, nurses and first responders that are all fighting to help contain the spread but, we also have heroes working blood drives, foodbanks providing free resources to the most vulnerable in our communities. That is why I was happy to help support organizations like North Valley Caring Services, Khalsa Care Foundation, and MEND-Meet Each Need with Dignity with this much needed personal protective equipment. I would like to thank President, David Tessier, my good friend Jaime Quevedo and the Mason Controls team for their generosity and outstanding leadership! Coming together during times like these is what public service is all about! #AD39

Thank you Making It Happen and All the Volunteers Assisting in Ongoing Food Distribution to Sunland-Tujunga Residents

We had another great day at Sunland Food Pantry. We gave out 122 food boxes at the Drive-Thru and volunteers delivered 19 boxes to house-bound neighbors.

Thanks to Chapel of the Hills church for the use of their facilities and to their volunteers who delivered boxes to local seniors.

A big shout-out to Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez’s office and Eve Sinclair for providing lunch for our pantry volunteers. It was sizzling hot out there today!

Coumvilwomam Monica Rodriguez - Culmination of a Week-Long Housing and Sanitation operation at Paxton and Bradley

Today marks the culmination of a week-long housing and sanitation operation at Paxton and Bradley, more than a year in the making. Some noted that tents did not come down overnight. There was a lot of careful planning that went into ensuring the residents were housed, property managed in accordance with the law, and that our public right of way was properly cleaned and secured. In total, 65 individuals were housed, and over 15k tons of materials were removed.

The success of this operation was made possible through the courageous and compassionate outreach teams of LA Family Housing and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) —who have been engaging residents to build relationships and provide service over several months. I appreciate the partnership with LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl in securing additional resources to make that effort possible. Deepest gratitude to Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment, City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services and LAPD Headquarters to make sure that everyone was safe in this process, and that the area was cleared for the public to utilize.

Since taking office two years ago, homelessness has been an issue that has rightfully monopolized our focus and resources. From leading reforms like the “Good Neighbor Policy” to innovating Navigation Centers that accelerate getting individuals and families off the street, I am focused and committed to getting this right for our neighborhoods, families, and kids.

The situation at Paxton and Bradley has been the source of greatest frustration to me and our community. This particular location, which is State Caltrans property, has made efforts more complicated. It’s taken an inexcusable amount of time to get multiple agencies to coordinate the appropriate services, but today I’m pleased with our collaborative efforts.

This represents an important public safety improvement for the area, and I will continue to work with our City departments and law enforcement to ensure that our public rights of way are maintained and most importantly safe for our community to use.

Today marks the culmination of a week-long

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez Desk - Team MRod Helped Deliver Meals to our Seniors

This week Team MRod helped deliver meals to our seniors through the City’s Congregate Meal Program. Through our partnership with the San Fernando Valley InterCommunity Council (VIC), we’re delivering thousands of meals and hygiene kits to homebound seniors every week. On Wednesday, VIC set a record of delivering over 2200 meals.

In addition, I’m pleased to share that the City is expanding its Emergency Senior Meals Response program for those 60 and older through a partnership with EveryTable. This meal program is an expansion of the current efforts I started in the 7th Council District. If you know of any seniors in need of meals or groceries, please contact my office at 818-485-0600.

From Councilwoman Monica Rodrogiez Desk - 2020 Project Roomkey/COVID-19 Shelters Meal Provision Services Request for Information (RFI)

This week, I introduced a motion directing the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to explore opportunities to partner with local restaurants to feed the homeless at shelters during COVID-19. Starting with a letter I sent to the LAHSA executive team on April 9, my office has been working with LAHSA to make this idea a reality. This is an innovative partnership and opportunity to support local businesses while supplying critical meals to our shelters.

I am happy to announce LAHSA’s release of the 2020 Project Roomkey/COVID-19 Shelters Meal Provision Services Request for Information (RFI). If are a restaurateur interested in providing meals or other catering services to shelter programs operating during COVID-19, I encourage you to sign up here: https://bit.ly/3cHIjPB.
