Last week, we distributed boxes of food to 500 families in need at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace. During a time when so many find themselves in desperation because of the closure of food pantries for the holiday season, we’ve started the tradition of organizing this food distribution event to help fill that gap.

Thanks to LA CityView35 for capturing this wonderful footage.

The Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is an annual census that counts our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Ensuring an accurate count is critical because it allows us to better direct vital services to address their needs.

The Count is taking place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in Council District 7, and we need your help. Please consider signing up with friends and family members since volunteers will be traveling in groups.

To sign up as a volunteer, please visit https://bit.ly/CD7HomelessCount.

I received news that Los Angeles County has been awarded $8,612,135.00 from the California Department of Housing & Community Development from the Regional Early Action Planning Grants of 2021 (REAP 2.0). This program represents a key part of the state’s strategic investments toward a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future.

REAP 2.0 is a flexible program that seeks to accelerate progress towards our state housing goals and climate commitments through a strengthened partnership between the state, its regions, and local entities. REAP 2.0 seeks to accelerate infill housing development, reduce Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT), increase housing supply at all affordability levels, affirmatively further fair housing, and facilitate the implementation of adopted regional and local plans to achieve these goals.

This new program was established as part of the 2021 California Comeback Plan under AB 140.

For additional details on the Regional Early Action Planning Grants of 2021 (REAP 2.0), please find the funding award letter below.

Our community has for decades struggled to get the same basic infrastructure investments that other parts of the city have been able to enjoy, and it’s why I continue to fight aggressively for increased investments and safety improvements. I’m proud to announce that we’ve secured a $42.3 million state grant to bring much-needed change on Osborne St. from San Fernando Rd. and Foothill Blvd!

That important corridor connects people to the Hansen Dam Recreation Area, and the state grant will be used “to create a connected, complete street and improve access to transportation options, neighborhood destinations, open spaces and trails.”

You might recall that earlier this year I sought your input on this project. Well, your participation is what helped us score well in this competitive process. I thank you for your participation and I look forward to updating you on the construction process going forward.
