Nonprofits play a vital role in California’s communities.

As the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Nonprofits and Founder of a nonprofit, I recognize the amount of work and dedication from staff that goes into serving our communities.

Congratulations to all of our nonprofits for being recognized for their contributions to the State!

Today, we celebrated Richard Blade. He is an icon of the ’80s and ’90s for many Angelenos. From KROQ to First Wave radio, he remains one of the best-known and beloved radio personalities in America that introduced many of us to our favorite alternative and new wave musicians.

June 09, 2023, has been declared Richard Blade Day!

Yesterday I joined residents, Father Domenech from Mary Immaculate Church, and our DOT Crew to celebrate a decades-long request fulfilled. We held a small activation ceremony for the new Hybrid Pedestrian Beacon at Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Mercer St.

For more than 20 years, residents have been seeking safer crossing access at this location, and it was a priority location for me with the $4.8m in funding I secured for traffic improvements in my first term.

This project will significantly enhance community safety and create a safe crossing on a busy corridor for Pacoima residents. I look forward to unveiling the additional traffic safety improvements throughout the district in the coming months.

Earlier today, I unveiled the “Gloria Molina Legacy Pathway” in honor of the late Gloria Molina. This event was held on what would have been her 75th birthday, joined by Councilmembers, Molina family members, and former staff.

Gloria Molina was a fierce advocate for government to do better for and by our communities. She was a powerful Chicana that spoke truth to power, unapologetically taking on powerful interests for the good of the people. She was a trailblazer whose her-story-making work and legacy will be celebrated daily by those that walk the path through Grand Park from the Halls of County Government to the City.

Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, let’s remember to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service as they served our country. Their unwavering dedication to military service and our country granted us our freedom.

As the daughter of a veteran, I have firsthand experience of what service members and their families sacrifice when enlisted in the armed forces.

We owe immense gratitude and are forever indebted to those that serve.

As a San Fernando High School student, I was selected to participate in Student Day in Government, which was Mayor Tom Bradley’s effort to introduce youth to local government from all parts of our city. That early introduction to local government aided my commitment to City service and fuels my work on prioritizing investments in youth.

I led the creation of the Olivia Mitchell Youth Council, which includes two youth representatives between the ages of 16-25 from each council district. This year-long program allows young people to learn the inner workings of city government.

Congratulations to the inaugural Olivia Mitchell LA City Youth Council!
