Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez - Honoring the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we honor the legacy of civil rights hero, Martin Luther King Jr. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the National Day of Service that celebrates his life and revolutionary work, fighting for racial and economic justice. This day sheds light on the importance of public service and helps us empower our communities to come together. Let us use today to volunteer, commit to service, and work together to make a difference in our City.

“Everybody can be great.. because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Assemblymember Luz Rivas - Homeless Children Assistance

How has California identified at least 200,000 homeless children, yet 400 school districts have failed to report a single homeless child?

The math does not add up. We can’t provide homeless children assistance if we are unable to identify them in the first place.

I am proud to introduce #AB1937 with Assemblymember David Chiu to create a standardized process for identifying homeless children across all of our school systems because no child deserves to be left behind. #HiddenHomeless #HomelessChildren

Did you know that starting October 1, 2020, the federal government will require your driver’s license or identification card (ID) to be REAL ID compliant, if you wish to board a domestic flight or enter a secure federal facility? If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to read over the information that I have provided on how you can get a REAL ID.

If you need assistance, please feel free to contact my District Office at (818)504-3911 where we have staff ready to assist you.

Once upon a time, there was a child who could listen to stories all day long! Once that child was there in all of us, just like the kids today who enjoy a good story while their mind runs wild with imagination. The fairy-tale characters, the plot twists, and the magical places fascinate them, as they are transported to new worlds. That said, storytelling for kids is an art and not an easy one at that.

That ‘art’ would be conducted by the Sunland – Tujunga Branch Library on January 22, 2020, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Story-telling and crafts for children will be done at Sunland – Tujunga Branch Library.
