Activating a New Left-Turn Phasing Signal
Activating a New Left-Turn Phasing Signal

Today I joined LADOT Official to activate a new left-turn phasing signal at the Sepulveda/Nordhoff intersection in North Hills.

Between 2015-2020 alone, this busy intersection experienced 72 collisions. Improving traffic safety and reducing collisions is a top priority for me.
This left-turn signal is one of three that we’re installing this month across the 7th Council District. The others will be placed in Sylmar and Tujunga.
If there’s an intersection with safety concerns in your area, please contact my Pacoima field office at 818-485-0600.

2020 Census

Today is your last chance to be counted! The 2020 Census questionnaire will take about 10 minutes to complete. It is safe, secure, and confidential. Your information and privacy are protected.
Each resident that completes the 2020 census brings approximately $1,950 in federal funding per person, per year, for 10 years, to our City. If every household in LA responded to the Census, we could profoundly grow our City’s public schools, emergency services (911), healthcare facilities, infrastructure, and much more. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Palmdale to Burbank Project Section
Virtual Community Meeting*
5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020

The alternatives remain unchanged in Palmdale and south of the ANF to the Hollywood Burbank Airport Station.
California High-Speed Rail Authority Announces the Modified Preferred Alternative and Build Alternatives for the Palmdale to Burbank Project Section
The Palmdale to Burbank (P-B) Project Section has added three modified build alternatives, which reduce potential impacts to sensitive aquatic resources south of Palmdale, including Una Lake. A total of six alternatives will now be included in the environmental review, including the three original alternatives known as Refined SR14, E1 and E2, and the three modified alternatives known as SR14A, E1A and E2A.
At the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Board meeting on August 13, 2020, the Board received an update from Authority CEO Brian Kelly regarding the alternatives for the Palmdale to Burbank Project Section, which included an adjustment to the state’s Preferred Alternative (PA). The PA is now the SR14A alternative; the previous PA was the Refined SR14. The PA is approximately 41 miles long and connects the Palmdale Transportation Center Station and Hollywood Burbank Airport Station. The modified PA will be underground through the community of Acton, and within the Angeles National Forest (ANF) and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. It will use the existing Metrolink right-of-way to the extent possible for approximately three miles in the San Fernando Valley.
The alternatives remain unchanged in Palmdale and south of the ANF to the Hollywood Burbank Airport Station.

The modified alternatives evolved as a result of the Authority’s continued work with public agency and community stakeholders to incorporate refinements that further avoid or minimize potential impacts to existing facilities, land uses, environmental resources and communities. The Palmdale to Burbank (P-B) Project Section is part of Phase 1 of the California High-Speed Rail System connecting the Antelope Valley to the San Fernando Valley, which will bring high-speed rail service to the urban Los Angeles area with a new modern rail line that closes the current passenger rail gap between Central and Southern California.
At the meeting, the modified alternatives to be carried forward in the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIR/EIS) will be presented, along with information on the environmental review process and other proposed project features.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being or have been carried out by the State of California pursuant to 23 U.S. Code 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated July 23, 2019, and executed by the Federal Railroad Administration and the State of California. Under that MOU, the Authority is the project’s lead agency under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Highlights the Unfair Prison Labor Practices During the Covid-19

This article highlights the unfair prison labor practices that have been exacerbated during the Covid-19 pandemic. Inmates have been working for pennies in dangerous conditions. At one prison, inmates were making masks but were not allowed to wear them.

I introduced legislation calling on the City to identify a process that would prohibit the purchase of goods and services manufactured by prison labor. As a City dedicated to fairness and equality for all, we must daylight unfair labor practices in our criminal justice system and take the steps necessary to address these injustices. Creating systemic change requires us to reevaluate all areas where we sustain practices meant to suppress communities of color.

Unveiling the Latest Tool to help Us Combat Fires

I’m proud to join the Los Angeles Fire Department in unveiling the latest tool to help us combat fires and protect the women and men on the frontlines.
The Thermite RS3 will be used for various large-scale emergency scenarios that are too dangerous to put firefighters in harm’s away.

This new technology is remarkable — we’ve come a long way in innovation since the time my father served in the LAFD in 1975.

This resource that will help our city remain at the forefront in fire safety and fire deployment. Thank you to the LA Fire Department Foundation for the donation of the RS3.
