She is a San Fernando High School grad and a DIY Girls participant. I was proud to nominate her for the $10,000 California Legislative Women’s Caucus scholarship, which she was awarded. The only woman in the state to receive the top 10K award!

Congratulations again Cecilia, and best of luck in your studies! #AD39 #STEM

LA Animal Services Microchipping & Licensing Clinic

THANK YOU FOR THIS IMPORTANT INFO FROM CD7: Hello, everyone. As we move again into peak wildfire season, I wanted to let you all know that Animal Services will be hosting a microchipping and licensing clinic this coming Saturday, August 28, from 12-2:30p. It will be held at Monteverde Ranch, at 11035 Osborne in Lake View Terrace. You can license your horse for only $14 a year – or license it for 5 years at $35 (a steal at just $7/yr!). Licensing is critical as it helps the City maintain an accurate count of horses in our communities, which can help influence many types of decisions by the City, and even can help protect your horse-keeping rights on your own property. In addition, it lets our first responders know where horses live in the event of a wildfire or other evacuation scenario. Lastly, license fees are dedicated to improving the trail facilities in the City and helping to preserve safe access for riders and their horses. If you can’t make the event, you can also register easily online for a license here at the Animal Services website: https://www.laanimalservices.com/laws…/animal-licenses/.

Microchipping will also be available at this event, for $15/horse. The microchips will contain the horse’s license information, and owner’s contact information. In the event of an evacuation due to wildfire, the microchip can give you peace of mind that your horse will be returned if it is separated from you.

Also, are you interested to join the City’s Volunteer Equine Emergency Respomse Team? You can read more about the VEERT program here: https://www.laanimalservices.com/veert/. Save the date for an upcoming Level 2 and Level 3 VEERT training on Saturday, September 25! More information coming soon on this VEERT training…. Thank you, and stay safe! The event is targeted to licensing and chipping horses, but they will also license and chip dogs if they are brought in.

Small Business Summer Walk in North Hollywood

Last week, I had the pleasure of learning about the obstacles and victories that our small business community in #AD39 endured in the past year. Beyond their economic contribution, they are continuously inspiring young minds across #AD39 into entrepreneurship.

My thanks to to Adriana from Cara Vana Coffee Shop, Kimnay and Raul from Fantastic Donuts & Croissants for hosting me and for serving North Hollywood! #ShopLocal #SmallBusiness

Cleanup at San Fernando Road and Montague Street

We all want clean, safe neighborhoods, and it takes all of us to work together to address these challenges. I coordinated with the Los Angeles Sanitation Department’s Environmental Compliance Inspectors for a cleanup at San Fernando Road and Montague Street in Pacoima.
The area was overrun with environmental hazards, debris, and bulky items. We must work collaboratively to keep our communities clean. If you see illegal dumping or debris in your neighborhood report, it using our free MyLA311 app or by calling 311.
For additional services, please call my Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600, or Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287.

2021 Brush Fire Season

Today, I joined Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Terrazas to talk about preparations for the 2021 Brush Fire Season and announce the beginning of the annual seasonal contract for the Erickson “Helitanker” water-dropping helicopter. My district has experienced some of the largest and most destructive fires in the region’s recent history. During the Creek Fire, over 115,000 people in my district were evacuated and more than 15,000 acres were destroyed.
As a City, we must be prepared for the upcoming wildfire season. During my Wildfire and Emergency Preparedness webinar series, my office created the Emergency Preparedness Procedures and Checklists. To receive the complete checklist, please call my Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600, or Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287.
