Poster Program

In the tradition of celebrating transportation through colorful travel destination posters, Metro commissioned local artists for the “Through the Eyes of Artist” poster program. Levi Ponce, a Pacoima resident, was one of the artists chosen and painted his San Fernando Valley neighborhood with a sense of unity and a touch of pastoral sentiment.
In his depiction, the recent Pacoima Neighborhood City Hall building, constructed in 2011, is framed by bright flowers. It sits side-by-side next to open streets and across the street from local shops. Residents support small businesses and enjoy an ice cream along Van Nuys Boulevard, the longest commercial stretch and heart of the neighborhood, as clouds float toward the foothill. His transformative mural projects bring together a wide range of artists, business owners, and youth. They serve as a catalyst, inspiring people to take control of their communities and leading to the rediscovery in LA’s “Mural Mile” corridor.
Levi Ponce’s original painting will be displayed at a future Pacoima station along the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Corridor.

Another #ExtremeHeat wave is going to pummel the #WestCoast starting today.
We urgently need to respond to these intensifying heat waves.
By creating an Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program through my legislation (#AB585), we can give our local governments the funding they need to implement innovative solutions to mitigate these extreme heat waves.
We can’t keep waiting to act on this #ClimateCrisis, or we’ll continue to senselessly lose more lives.

Review and Design of Road Striping

After my office received numerous calls regarding traffic safety at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Harding Street, we worked with the LADOT Official to expedite the review and design of road striping along Foothill Boulevard and Gridley Street to address this issue.
I’m pleased to report that the redesign of the road striping has been completed. The redesign included adding a two-way center turn lane between Gridley Street and Maclay Street in front of Tovara Homes. The center lane will make it safer for southbound traffic on Foothill Boulevard to enter Tovara Homes and for those exiting Tovara Homes to make a left on Foothill Boulevard and to enter southbound traffic. These improvements will help increase visibility and ensure the safety of the public.
If there are streets that you would like to be resurfaced or restriped in your neighborhood, please call the Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

Leave No One Behind Mural Project

President Joe Biden‘s administration plans to bring deported veterans and their immediate family members back to the United States is promising news for those who were deported after honorably serving our country.
In May, I partnered with the Los Angeles chapter of Veterans for Peace to unveil a mural as part of the Leave No One Behind Mural Project. Through public art and advocacy, we urged the Biden-Harris Administration and Congress to enact immigration policy to repatriate our deported veterans, protect childhood arrivals, end family separation and reunite families.
As we celebrate the #FourthOfJuly it is welcome news that those who fought for the freedoms we are celebrating will now be able to come home.
