Resurface Mercer Street

I am pleased to announce that my staff worked closely with the Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering to prioritize and resurface Mercer Street Between Glenoaks Blvd. and Borden Ave. The sections repaired were uneven and had cracks in the asphalt. Street resurfacing is among several improvements I’ve delivered for our community to create safer streets by improving pedestrian safety and reducing collisions, injuries, and fatalities in the 7th Council District.
For more information on upcoming projects in the district, please visit the Streets LA website at https://streetsla.lacity.org/ and select ‘Road Repair’. If you have any questions or would like to recommend another street in the area in need of resurfacing, please contact my Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600, or Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287.

I am pleased to announce that

We will begin the RED TIER on MONDAY.
In a major milestone, Los Angeles County has met the state’s threshold to reopen key sectors and starting on Monday will permit a wide range of indoor operations to resume in sectors including middle and high schools; restaurants; movie theaters; gyms and museums, zoos and aquariums, all with safeguards in place.
The move into the state’s less restrictive Red Tier comes as case rates continue to fall significantly from their winter peak.
Key sectors reopening include:

Surge in Violence Against Asian-Americans

I joined my colleagues Councilmember John Lee, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, Councilmember Joe Buscaino to introduce a motion addressing the alarming surge in violence against Asian-Americans. Data from LAPD indicates that hate crimes targeting Asian Americans increased by 114% over the past year. These crimes were fueled, in part, by racist theories related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The motion asks LAPD to report on data of the increased crimes against Asian Americans and on the department’s response to the trend. It also instructs the police department to report on potential resources it could use to reduce instances of hate crimes against Asian Americans and cultural sites and to identify and prosecute suspects responsible for the crimes.
