California Grants Portal

The State just launched the California Grants Portal. This is a one-stop destination to find all grants and loans offered on a competitive or first-come basis by California state agencies. Please visit: https://www.grants.ca.gov/

This portal will:
1) Host information about grant opportunities offered by different state agencies and find information about how to apply for each grant on the Grants Portal. Grantseekers must apply through the grantmaking agency’s own application processes.
2) Provide email updates about all new grant opportunities in each specific category.

The Arroyo, for Women Experiencing Homelessness in Sylmar
The Arroyo, for Women Experiencing Homelessness in Sylmar

In the midst of a pandemic, I’m proud to be part of the coalition that delivered The Arroyo, a beacon of light for women experiencing homelessness in Sylmar. This project is a model of successful collaboration, transforming an underutilized facility into a safe place for women to heal and recover.

Grateful for our partners for their commitment to this project and leading the transformation of this space to deliver 85 beds to women in Sylmar: LA Family Housing, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and staff, and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.

July 17, 2020

Cheers to another end of the week. Here are your updates:

Businesses and Outdoor Operations: Because the State’s Business & Professions Code (Section 7317) requires that all barbering, cosmetology and electrology services be performed in a licensed establishment, LA County hair salons, barbershops, and personal care establishments must close, and not offer any services (including outdoor services).
Fitness centers and gyms can operate outdoors
Places of worship can take their services outdoors
All non-essential offices have to work from home or outside – no indoor operations

Testing Sites: LA County is expanding testing over the next two weeks, specifically in areas of high need. The Valley will be getting a new testing site in Panorama City.

Business Violations: Our office has received 549 complaints of businesses not following the health rules in the past two weeks. Starting Monday we are re-launching our Business Ambassador Program, sending out dozens of City workers every day to visit businesses with a problem. Reminder, rules, and guidelines for businesses can be found at coronavirus.lacity.org/business
Employers and Employees matters with COVID-19:
Employers should not require a negative COVID-19 test result before employees return to work, and employees do not need to present a certificate saying they have tested negative, under the current guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Employers can offer and pay for COVID-19 testing as an occupational health and safety measure if an employer wishes to have its workforce get tested before returning to a work site. These employees should not seek a test at the City/County/State testing sites, which should be reserved for those who meet the medical or public health criteria for testing, and who do not have access to testing through their regular provider or health plan.
Project & Respect Campaign: To help communicate the message of the importance of wearing a mask, our office has partnered with Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number one to produce posters encouraging everyone to wear a mask. You can download the poster here and post it on your window.
May you all have a safe weekend, don’t forget to wash your hands and wear a mask!

July 17, 2020 Cheers to another end

Since the State’s March #ShelterInPlace Order, my team and I have resolved our 200th #EDD case for #AD39 constituents. I am proud of my team for meeting the moment and working tirelessly to serve the needs of my community during the #COVID19 pandemic. My office is still receiving new cases on a daily basis and will continue to facilitate assistance with EDD issues. We have a lot of work in front of us, but I am committed to serving AD39.

Launched Pacoima Electro-Share
Launched Pacoima Electro-Share

This week, I joined the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), Pacoima Beautiful, and Envoy to launch Pacoima Electro-Share, a new electric vehicle (EV) community car-share program.

These electric cars are now open to all Pacoima residents and will be stationed at the community center inside the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles’ (HACLA) San Fernando Gardens housing development in Pacoima. I’m proud to have created the partnership with HACLA and LACI to increase access to electric vehicles in an underserved area, making progress towards our collective goals to reduce air pollution and electrify transportation in the Valley.

This is part of LACI’s Zero Emissions Mobility and Community Pilot Project Fund which is launching four zero-emissions mobility pilots around Los Angeles county this year. The program’s commitment to the community includes affordable membership levels and community partner revenue share for Pacoima Beautiful.

Progress made with Operation Bright S.P.O.T.

I’m pleased to share the progress we’ve made with Operation Bright S.P.O.T (“Strategic Partners Outfoxing Trash”) in Pacoima. My team removed weeds and gum, power washed sidewalks, swept streets, and repainted red curbs. A cleaner district means better public safety, increased “walkability” for residents, and economic growth for small businesses.

This month, we are focusing our efforts on Glenoaks from Gain Street to Osborne Street, and Osborne Street from the freeway to Laurel Canyon.

If you have a commercial corridor in mind that may benefit from Operation Bright S.P.O.T, please contact us.
