Proud of My Team

Today I received a kind message from a constituent and I wanted to highlight and share how proud I am of my team for the great work they are doing to serve #AD39. We are dedicated to our community and will continue to fight for our constituents during these difficult times.

If you need assistance, please contact my office at (818) 504-3911.

Installing Parking Restrictions Signage

Recently, my office received calls from residents concerned about traffic and public safety on Tupper Avenue in North Hills. Our team worked with the Department of Transportation and LAPD to install parking restrictions signage between Lemona Street and Noble Street.

The new signage reads “NO PARKING, 10 PM – 6 AM” — these parking restrictions will help reduce illegal activities (such as dumping) in the area surrounding Plummer Elementary School. These small steps go a long way in promoting safety for our children, families, and community members.

If you have any questions about these new parking restrictions, please call my Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409.

Opportunity to Meet Marco Torres
Opportunity to Meet Marco Torres

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with Apple to discuss how we can improve computer science and STEM outcomes for students and teachers in California. It was especially great because I had the opportunity to meet Marco Torres, a long time educator and resident of #Sylmar. He is also fellow San Fernando High School Alum! #GoTigers! It’s always great to see community members of #AD39 succeeding and working to give back to the community!

Launched "L.A. Al Fresco"

‼️Attention Restaurant owners: My colleagues and I on the City Council worked with the City to launch “L.A. Al Fresco” — a new program that allows restaurants to expand their outdoor dining areas into parking lanes, driving lanes, and adjacent private lots. This will allow your customers to safely dine while social distancing.

The City will provide planters, barricades, and umbrellas to help restaurants expand their outdoor dining options in these newly permitted spaces. Visit the links below for more information on how to apply.

2020 Woman of The Year Award to Nicole Chase

This morning, I had the pleasure of presenting #AD39’s 2020 Woman of The Year Award to Nicole Chase, President/CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley (Official). Under your leadership, the Boys and Girls Club is truly a safe space for our youth and community. Due to #COVID19, our community is unable to enjoy the Boys and Girls Club like we are used to, however, we look forward to the day when we can. Thank you for a lifetime of dedication and commitment to youth of the Northeast San Fernando Valley.

passing of former LA City Councilmember Hal Bernson

Saddened to hear about the passing of former LA City Councilmember Hal Bernson. Hal was best known for his no-nonsense approach and leading voice in getting our city prepared for earthquakes.

After the 1971 Sylmar quake, then- Councilmember Bernson pushed for retrofitting thousands of the city’s oldest buildings. The seismic safety paid off and prepared the Valley in the Northridge earthquake. His legacy lives on.

Sending my condolences to his family and loved ones.

Cleared the Fallen Dirt and Debris

Operation Bright S.P.O.T (“Strategic Partners Outfoxing Trash”) isn’t just about beautification — it’s about increasing public safety. In this photo, cleanup crews cleared the fallen dirt and debris that was blocking the sidewalk and forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.

Our team is finishing up clean up efforts in Pacoima this week and will shift to Sunland-Tujunga next week. Cleanup efforts in this large area will be taking place for 2 months (mid-July to mid-September).
If you live in the Foothills and have a particular corridor in mind that may benefit from Operation Bright S.P.O.T, please contact us.

LA Family Housing for The Arroyo Bridge Housing

This morning I had the privilege of joining LA Family Housing for The Arroyo Bridge Housing ribbon cutting. The Arroyo Bridge Housing complex in Sylmar will provide a safe space for 85 women experiencing homelessness.
I want to highlight and commend Stephanie Klasky Gamer, CEO of LA Family Housing for spearheading this significant project in the Northeast San Fernando Valley.
