🇺🇸 ATTENTION VOTERS 🇺🇸

To ensure Los Angeles residents can safely vote in the 2020 Presidential General Election, StreetsLA worked with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk to install 123 Official Ballot Drop Boxes around the City.

The boxes will be easily accessible, conveniently located for voters to drop off their ballot, and available by October 5 (the day mail-in ballots are released).

Before you drop off your Vote by Mail ballot make sure:

Once again, we find ourselves as the voice for the voiceless in speaking out against the atrocities that are occurring in Artsakh right now.

For the Armenian Community, this tragedy is not one forgotten, rather it’s one being re-lived. Make no mistake, the actions occurring in Artsakh today represent a knee on the neck of humanity. It is our collective responsibility to say ‘NO MORE!’

Today, I joined my colleagues in asking everyone in Los Angeles and across the nation to call on the federal government to ask for a ceasefire and seek peace in the region.

My office has also partnered with the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Scouts Los Angeles San Fernando Valley Chapter, to support the ArmeniaFund to host a donation drive to collect items for families impacted by the conflict.

socks, flashlights, blankets, crutches, wheelchairs, canes, walkers, thermoses, backpacks, sleeping bags, and winter coats.

Dia de Los Muertos

Every year, our Latino community celebrates Dia de Los Muertos — a holiday to remember and pay homage to those who are no longer with us.

Traditionally, our office would close down Van Nuys Blvd. in Pacoima and host a street festival. However, given the COVID-19 pandemic and our responsibility to socially distance, this year we will be creating an elaborately decorated altar at Pacoima City Hall to commemorate those who have passed.

We invite all community members who lost a loved one to COVID-19 to submit a photo for placement in the Dia de Los Muertos altar in Pacoima City Hall. Community members are encouraged to drive by the large altar from November 1st – November 9th.

• Photo submissions will be accepted through October 9th.
• Do not mail in or drop off photos in person (can’t be accepted).
• Email your photo as an attachment to elly.alvarez@lacity.org.
• Call Pacoima City Hall at (818) 485-0600 with any questions.

Solidarity with the Resilient Armenian Community

I stand in solidarity with the resilient Armenian community and join them in calling for peace and an end to the horrendous attacks on innocent civilian lives. The number of casualties in this conflict is growing and the Trump Administration and Congress must hold Azerbaijan and Turkey accountable for the attack on Artsakh.

I send my deepest condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones to this conflict. #ArtsakhStrong

Free Flu Shots

This week, we started the fall season and with it comes the challenges of the upcoming flu season. Every year, LA hospitals receive an influx of patients needing treatment for the flu, but this year will be especially challenging given that we are still in a COVID-19 pandemic. Medical experts are advising all Angelenos to get a flu shot as soon as possible to avoid a possible “twindemic” from overtaking our hospital resources.

In order to save lives, we must do all that we can. Please start with the simple step of getting a flu shot. Everyone should call their doctor, visit a pharmacy, or use VaccineFinder.org to schedule a flu shot appointment.

⚠️ If you don’t have insurance, you can still get a flu shot.

Mayor Garcetti launched a pilot program with the USC School of Pharmacy to bring free flu shots to residents in the weeks ahead. No appointments necessary. The program is running at the Weingart East L.A. YMCA, and will have more sites coming soon.

Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should wait to get a flu shot, stay in isolation, and consult their doctor before getting a flu shot.

To learn more about the program or find a location, please visit Coronavirus.LACity.org/FluShot
