#AD39Spotlight – Congratulations Olivia Chavez-Carroll for being appointed as Chair Pro Temp of California Women Veterans Leadership Council! #AD39 Veterans and their families are lucky to have you represent them!
The California Department of Veterans Affairs works to serve and honor all California veterans by connecting them and their families with their earned benefits through education, advocacy, and direct services. The California Women Veterans Leadership Council was formed in April 2016 to provide a statewide structure in which women veterans can share information and collaborate across regions in California about issues important to women who served.

The City of Los Angeles and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez present ÂĄEL GRITO! Benefit Telethon featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana and La Santa Cecilia. A benefit telethon to raise funds to support undocumented Angelenos impacted by COVID-19 and to kickoff Latino Heritage Month.

¡EL GRITO! is the celebration of Mexican Independence Day and the September Independence Days of Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Traditionally held on the steps of City Hall, this year’s ¡EL GRITO! will feature virtual musical performances to raise funds for Angelenos impacted by COVID-19. The telethon will also highlight Los Angeles’ vibrant Latino community as well as showcase the immense contributions Latinos have made to the City’s culture, history, and economy.
The music lineup features a diverse mix of sounds ranging from mariachi, banda, trio, and norteño. The virtual concert will run from 7 PM to 9 PM. During the program, the City of Los Angeles will join the Consul General of Mexico in re-enacting the historic Cry of Dolores and ringing of the bell, which commemorates the call to arms pronounced by Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 which launched the Mexican War for Independence.
El Grito Telethon can be viewed on ElGrito2020.com with funds raised to help support undocumented Angelenos impacted by COVID-19 via the Los Angeles based Comunidades IndĂ­genas en Liderazgo (CIELO).

Dealing with Eviction during COVID-19

While the Judicial Council of California announced that the COVID-19 emergency rules that stopped evictions will end on Sept 1, 2020 — this DOES NOT impact the Los Angeles City COVID-19 tenant protection ordinances for residential rental units.
The Los Angeles City ordinances remain in place and continue to afford protections to the City’s renters during the pandemic. If you are a City of Los Angeles tenant and you received an eviction notice, file a complaint.

Luz Rivas Hosts Back to School Virtual Town Hall

Join me next Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 from 4pm to 5pm, for a Back to School Virtual Town Hall with LAUSD School Boardmember Kelly Gonez, LAUSD Superintendent Andres Chait, and Arminta Elementary School Principal, Rene Ramirez. Come and learn first-hand what our State, LAUSD, and educators are doing to make distance learning as effective as possible for students, families, and faculty. Find out what resources are available for students to better equip them for distance learning and what services are offered for families in this new environment.
