Saturday / April 27.

Young people are struggling and we need to strengthen investments in youth programs and services so we may better serve their needs. Saturday, I joined our proud Sylmar community at the Opening of the West Lakeside Park and participated on a panel for the SCHOLAS Citizenship Program, in an effort founded by Pope Francis when he was in Argentina. The youth in my district and across Los Angeles have an advocate on their side for the issues that matter most to them.

West Lakeside Park is a new community park made possible through land made available by LADWP and funding we secured from state and local matches. The opening was delayed by the pandemic and important enhancements and amenities were made for the community, but alas it’s complete and it’s beautiful. Youth and their families need safe space for physical and mental health and it brought me great joy to be celebrating with our community and the youth participating in the SCHOLAS program to learn more about how to better address the needs of young people in our city.

It’s why I fought to create the Youth Development Department and why I will continue to fight for resources that address our kids’ needs.

Have your voice heard. Your participation in the redistricting process is important and necessary for the city to reexamine the current redistricting process.

The purpose of redistricting is to redraw the maps that impact our community and to ensure you have the power to determine fair and inclusive representation in your council district.
The Road to Reform LA will conduct listening sessions city-wide through June.

From the listening sessions, The Ad Hoc Committee on Governance Reform will make recommendations to the full City Council in late June or early August.

To register your thoughts on redistricting, visit lacouncilcomment.com, Council File # 22-1196-S1
