From Assemblymember Luz Rivas Desk – Unemployment Insurance Updates

Unemployment insurance updates:

California is now participating in the #LostWagesAssistance program. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the state’s application recently and will provide an initial amount of $4.5 billion, with the possibility of additional funding going forward.
This will provide an additional $300 per week for claimants who receive at least $100 per week in unemployment benefits. If you qualify, payments are for weeks of unemployment dating back to August 1, even if you are paid later.
The supplemental payment of $300 per week will be available for a limited period of time, a minimum of three weeks, for claimants who are:
1. currently eligible to receive at least $100 per week in benefits, and
2. who have provided a self-certification that they are unemployed or partially unemployed due to disruptions caused by COVID-19.
The EDD will begin processing Lost Wages Assistance payments in phases for eligible individuals in the week beginning September 7, 2020. For more details on this program, feel free to visit the link below or contact my office at 818-504-3911 for assistance.
