A Girl To Engineering Day

Today is one of my favorite days to recognize in the Legislature, Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day! I was proud to introduce ACR 133 to recognize this special day that encourages young girls and women to become engaged in the STEM field.

When I was studying to be an engineer, I did not have many female role models and I was constantly one of the only women in the room and almost always the only woman of color. That’s why I started DIY Girls because I know that young women are just as interested in STEM as young men.

As a leader in engineering and as a champion of gender equality, California can continue to lead the way in empowering young women to pursue careers in engineering.

I want to thank Miranda Patton, Taylor Kanaan, Lindsey Angell, Cameron Knudson, Anna Tekautz, Rick Moor, and Susan Wilson for joining me today as I introduced ACR 133!

There is still time to apply to the Los Angeles City Youth Council. The youth council will include two youth representatives between the ages of 16 and 25 from each council district. This year-long paid program gives young people the opportunity to learn the inner workings of the City of Los Angeles, to solve issues within their communities.

Applications for the Los Angeles City Youth Council will close on Monday, February 28, 2022. For more information or to apply, visit https://youthcouncil.lacity.org.

A concerned Pacoima resident contacted my office regarding an unsafe abandoned property. The house presented a public safety hazard. Leading the effort with LAPD, Los Angeles Building and Safety, and the City Attorney’s Office we coordinated an abatement order for the property. This effort to deploy nuisance abatement strategies is part of my continued investments in creating greater public safety results in our neighborhoods.
If you spot a similar issue in your neighborhood or have abandoned vehicles and illegal dumping, report it to MyLA311. For additional services, please call my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

My Team Participated as Deployment Sites Coordinators

Each year, thousands of volunteers gather throughout LA County to take part in the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count.

Having information about our homeless neighbors makes life better for all of us and helps direct resources where they are needed most.

My team participated last night where they spent hours serving as Deployment Sites Coordinators for the Mission Hills-Arleta Count. My team will always be here to support our communities in need.

Thank you Los Angeles Times for your editorial piece covering the urgent need for AB-2238, legislation sponsored by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara that Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia and I introduced last week and would create an Extreme Heat wave ranking system.

California must do so much more to address Extreme Heat and we can help save lives with this bill by creating a system that would warn our residents about incoming deadly heat waves.

Thank you Los Angeles Times for your

Last month, I had the opportunity to visit the Providence Holy Cross Surgery Center – Mission Hills!
The team from Providence Holy Cross Surgery Center, which is affiliated with the California Ambulatory Surgery Association (CASA), gave me a tour of the facilities and information about the services they offer their patients.

Their team also shared about some of the challenges their facility encountered during the COVID-19 outbreak, all while attempting to prioritize the safety of their patients. Some of the most complex procedures such as joint replacement and spine surgery are two of the most demanding procedures performed in AD-39.

Thank you, Providence Holy Cross Surgery Center and CASA, for giving me a behind-the-scenes look at your facility!
