Leading the effort with our CARE+

Removing dead trees and replanting to rebuild our tree canopy is work I’ve been leading for the last four years. Working with our Urban Forestry Division, I secured additional funding to remove 25 tree stumps that posed a safety hazard in our neighborhoods. These stump removals help create a safe and accessible path for all sidewalk users including pedestrians and equestrians.

Supporting this effort in the 7th Council District, I’m pleased to share that our Operation Bright S.P.O.T. team will be expanding its services to now include stump removal in the district. During the week, the crew was active in removing stumps across the 7th Council District. If you have a location in mind that may benefit from Operation Bright S.P.O.T. please call my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

As part of my continued effort to create safer streets across the 7th Council District, we are working with LADOT Official to implement Phase 1 safety improvements to Foothill Blvd., from Sherman Grove Ave. to Apperson St., adding new continental crosswalks and conflict markings in the existing bike lane.

Thank you to all our community members that provided input to this important project during the recent traffic safety pop-up at Sunland Park. To learn more about the proposed improvements, upcoming signal upgrades, and to provide feedback, please visit https://bit.ly/35ovDii. For questions or additional information about this project, please contact my Sunland-Tujunga district office at (818) 352-3287.

Recently CARE+ provided outreach and comprehensive maintenance services along Foothill Blvd., in Sylmar. In partnership with Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment, we stored personal property and removed trash that was obstructing the public right-of-way next to recreational vehicles. Through these efforts, LADOT Official removed an unhitched trailer from the street. Our sanitation and parking enforcement team will continue to work with the vehicle dwellers experiencing homelessness and provide services to them.
