I Honored the Los Angeles Women Police Officer Association

In 1910, Alice Stebbins Wells had to petition the Los Angeles City Council to become a member of the LAPD. Over 100 years later, only 18% of LAPD’s sworn officers are women, and they remain underrepresented in higher ranks. I honored the Los Angeles Women Police Officer Association’s (LAWPOA) board members for their work to improve the professional standards, service and advance greater opportunities for women in law enforcement. Building trust between community and law enforcement is buoyed when we see members of the department that come from our communities and lived our same experiences. I’m proud to know many of these women who represent the very best of community policing and I thank them for their efforts to not just fight for gender parity but fight to change the institution.

In 1910, Alice Stebbins Wells had

Regarding an Illegal Dumping SiteRegarding an Illegal Dumping Site

A concerned Sylmar resident contacted my office regarding an illegal dumping site. Our Operation Bright S.P.O.T. was sent and removed the miscellaneous debris. We must work collaboratively to keep our communities clean. If you see illegal dumping or debris in your neighborhood, don’t wait for it to become a nuisance, report it to our city crew via 3-1-1. It is free, easy, and can be done four ways:

-Dial 311 from your phone
-Report on their website, https://myla311.lacity.org/
-Download and use the “MyLA311” app from your smartphone
-Call the Bureau of Sanitation Customer Service Center (800) 773-2489

If you have a corridor in mind that may benefit from Operation Bright S.P.O.T., please call the Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or the Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

Removing dead trees and replanting to rebuild our tree canopy is work I’ve been leading for the last four years. I have been working closely with the Urban Forestry Division (UFD) to maintain and grow a healthy tree canopy for our community. I’m pleased to share that working with UFD we began addressing a backlog of requests for tree trimming, as well as dead tree and stump removal. Last weekend, this work began with trimming five trees and removing nine dead trees that posed a safety danger in Sylmar.

As we remove dead trees, we continue to supplement our tree canopy, adding trees to green our community. To learn more about our efforts in maintaining our urban canopy, please call my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

Beautified North Hills Community with MRod Volunteer CorpsBeautified North Hills Community with MRod Volunteer Corps

The MRod Volunteer Corps beautified our community of North Hills. We cleared debris, illegal dumping, and completed beautification projects such as weed abatement to improve the area. I appreciate the partnership with members of our community who understand that improving the quality of life is a shared responsibility.

This type of collaborative effort between my office and members of the community working together will help keep our neighborhoods clean. I invite you to join me and your neighbors to be part of the solution by joining an upcoming cleanup, picking up litter in your own neighborhood, and reporting issues like illegal dumping to MyLA311. If you haven’t yet signed up for the MRod Volunteer Corps, you can join us by visiting http://bit.ly/MRODVOLUNTEERCORP

Copper wire and power theft (CWPT) incidents have dramatically increased citywide and our community has been impacted dramatically. I am pleased to share that working closely with our Bureau of Street Lighting (BSL) we are beginning repairs on the outages throughout the district, beginning with the largest grid affecting 38 lights out currently in Pacoima. BSL personnel shortages coupled with copper wire theft resulted in a backlog of street light outages in the city.

Today’s work marks the beginning of our comprehensive effort to address this problem. If you see a copper wire and/or power theft please contact our LAPD Foothill at (818)756-8861 or Mission Division at (818) 838-9800. My office is also here to help you connect with LAPD, please contact my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

RACIST & SEXIST towards our ARMENIAN WOMEN

On April 23rd evening a vehicle with 4 Armenian Flags was parked on Commerce Ave & Hillrose St. In the morning the individual discovered that there were gunshots on his vehicle with the glass bown out clearly a hate crime.

A young Armenian woman posted the pictures on a Facebook group that resulted in many locals making different comments. However, she discover that on her post an individual has wrote a very DISCUSTING AND HATEFUL MESSAGE TOWARDS ARMENIANS AND ARMENIAN WOMEN.

What is the right approach towards this particular individual who clearly is a racist, bigot and a sorry excuse of a man. He poses on his Facebook page with his daughters or sisters, yet he writes such a hateful discussting message to an Armenian Women of similar age.

THIS IS NOT OKAY. Many thought go through my head and it angers me, but I have to catch myself not to do anything that I would regret. Anger is a sign for pain. It pains me to have neighbors that are still such racists and sexists towards our women. Armenian women have endured some of histories brutal, darkest utterly devastating and most painful moments. This is clearly another example of our younger generation of women having to endure similar pains as our ancestors.
