It was an honor and privilege to present Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 114 designating January 19th as Cindy Montañez Day. She is one of the most influential leaders in California’s history.

She has always had the tenacity and drive to be a leader. She is the youngest woman elected to serve the City of San Fernando at the age of 25, the youngest woman to serve the California State Legislature at 28, and the first Latina and Democrat to serve as Chair of the powerful Assembly Rules Committee at the age of 30.

At an early age, Cindy recognized environmental injustices in her community. When she served as the Assistant General Manager of LADWP, she helped drive LADWP’s transition to a cleaner and sustainable local water supply. Her environmental advocacy also led her to be the CEO of TreePeople, becoming the first Latina CEO to lead an environmental organization.

She currently serves on the City of San Fernando’s City Council and is a board member of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

Her fiery spirit and determination are an inspiration to young girls and Latinas. Her unwavering commitment to serving the residents of the City of San Fernando and the Valley is a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come. Pioneers like Cindy inspire us to continue championing environmental and social justice policies to make our shared community and state a better place.

Thank you to her family, friends, and colleagues for attending this ceremony. #ACR114 #AD43
