Since Thanksgiving is just two days away, here are tips on how you can prevent cooking fires from happening. It’s on all of us to do our part and keep each other safe.
With an estimated average of 187,500 cooking fires occurring each year in the United States, this would free up our firefighters and allow them to focus on emergencies, too.

I received news that #AD39 has been awarded $44,847,783 from the California Department of Housing & Community Development (HCD) for the Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program.

The purpose of the PLHA Program is to help local governments to address their affordable housing needs. The PLHA program provides financial assistance made available through the passage of SB 2 (Chapter 364, Statutes of 2017) and allocates 70 percent of the ongoing revenue deposited in the Building Homes and Jobs Trust Fund directly to local governments.

Investments like these are a critical step to ensuring communities have affordable housing throughout California.

For additional details on the Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program, please find the funding award letter below.

The holiday season can be a time of great uncertainty and pressure for our working families. This year, I was happy to partner with SEIU Local 121RN, MEND Poverty, and Pacoima Neighborhood Council for a Thanksgiving Food Distribution.

Today, we were able to distribute 400+ care boxes, and each box contained poultry, fresh produce, and canned goods. My team was also happy to host mobile district office hours and provide assistance on state resources.

Thank you to our dedicated partners, volunteers, and staff for your coordination in this year’s thanksgiving drive and for spreading cheer to our families in #AD39.

Pacoima is getting its first-ever neighborhood traffic circle (or roundabout)—I call it progress!

Yesterday, I joined the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, the Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, and community members for the groundbreaking of the neighborhood traffic circle, which will be located at the intersection of Telfair Avenue and Montague Street. Roundabouts are often found in more affluent neighborhoods, but the residents of Council District 7 deserve the absolute best, too.

As part of the project, which is designed to slow speeds and create a more “people-friendly” intersection, there will be new:
– Sidewalks;
– Curb ramps;
– Crosswalks, and
– Landscaping.

Telfair Avenue and Montague Street connect with many neighborhood destinations, including our nearby Montague Elementary School as well as future investments along the Pacoima Wash.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of April 2023.
