Congratulations to Fernandeno Tataviam Band of Mission Indians for receiving over $1 million in grants to assist their climate resilience efforts.
They received:

– $180,000 from the 2021 California Resilience Challenge Grant
– $25,000 from the Environmental Justice Fund
– $800,000 from the 2022 Regional Climate Collaboratives grant to create the 2030 Resilient Networks Collaborative, a tribal led collaborative group that will establish and execute Tribal climate resilience projects.

In the face of mounting climate threats such as heightened and lengthened wildfire seasons, increasingly extreme heat, intensifying floods, and more frequent drought conditions within the Tribe’s boundaries, I was proud to support this critical investment which will center Tribal community needs and concerns in California’s resilience planning.

Many thanks to Climate Resolve for assisting the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians. When we all come together, we can effectively address climate change. #AD43

Pleasure to join my constituents in Glendale today to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In his famous letter from a Birmingham jail, Dr. King wrote that time was not an ally or an enemy, but only what we made of it.
He urged us to feel the “fierce urgency of now.”

With thousands of our neighbors unhoused, with hate and bigotry once again on the rise, we must feel the urgency to act with love towards one another.

It falls upon each of us to use our time wisely, bravely, and right now, to fight for justice. That is how we stamp out hate. That is how we bring about a world of peace.

I’m thinking about a fellow Tiger who passed away on Thursday: Charles White (#12 in the picture).

Charles was a prolific athlete at our alma mater, San Fernando High School, where he excelled in both football and track. After graduating in 1976, he attended USC and continued experiencing success. In addition to helping USC win a national football championship in 1978, he won the coveted Heisman Trophy in 1979 and is still the Trojans’ all-time leading rusher with 6,245 yards. He then played 9 seasons in the NFL.

From cancer to addiction to dementia, Charles didn’t lead an easy life, but he was loved by so many. May he rest in peace.
