This weekend, my team was happy to participate in the community dump clean up day hosted by Caltrans District 7 and Clean California at the Paxton lot in #Pacoima.

This event was intended to help our community members in #AD43 get ready for the spring season and dispose of any bulky furniture items free of charge in a safe and environmental friendly way.

As part of California’s Clean California Initiative, these events help discourage and prevent illegal dumping along the State Highway System by providing our community members with equitable access to disposal options. Thank you to all partners who helped to coordinate this event for our communities.

This week was another great week at City Hall.

1. Last week, I introduced a motion asking city departments to find solutions and funding to address the flooding and access issues on Oro Vista Avenue. Because of its urgency, the City Council approved my motion. After visiting the area this past week, it is crucial for the city to find solutions that will allow permanent access for Riverwood Ranch residents to the Sunland-Tujunga area.

2. This week, I introduced a motion asking for a proposal on the possibility of a P-22 statue in Griffith Park. P-22 will be remembered as a call for change. The City of Los Angeles must focus on creating a safer infrastructure for wildlife, and P-22 will be a constant reminder of the need for that change.

When Pattee Colvin, President, Making it Happen, Inc. was living on the streets over 16 years ago, she never would have dreamed that she would have the life that she does today.
After receiving a hot meal from a ministry in Sunland while she was still homeless, the compassion of the volunteers who worked there touched her so deeply that she began volunteering for the same hot meal program. By 2007, Pattee was holding a leadership position and running the entire program.

In 2013, Pattee founded Making It Happen Inc., an organization designed to meet the needs of those in our community who are hungry, homeless, unemployed, or under-employed by providing food, clothing, and access to services that provide a pathway to more successful lives. Using her own life story, Pattee made it the organization’s mission to help lift people up who were in need.
In 2019, Pattee received the Pioneer Woman of the Year Award from the City of Los Angeles honoring her lasting impact on the community. Most recently, she was honored as the 2021 Woman of the Year by Congressman Adam Schiff.

Pattee believes that building economically strong, socially unified, and inclusive communities can change the world, and she has shown us the difference this has made for Council District 7.
