I am pleased that an agreement has been reached between SEIU Local 99 and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). As the personnel keeping our children safe and maintaining our city’s schools, the LAUSD employees fought hard for these well-deserved changes.

While on strike, Team MRod was out in the district supporting LAUSD employees providing snacks to those on strike. Thank you to the members of Local 99 for their dedication and support of our young people.

An incredible morning and start to the Spring season in the community of #Sylmar! I was proud to partner with Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment and Pacoima Beautiful for Veggies and Policy!

Thank you to all the community members who joined us today for urban gardening and legislative updates. It was wonderful seeing many constituents from around my district, giving updates on the legislative successes from the last year, and sharing my legislative priorities for this new legislative session.

A special thank you to Mr. Steve List and all the partners who coordinated this amazing workshop for our community members in #AD43!

This week, for Women’s History Month, I want to highlight a Pacoima native, Crystal Jackson, an author, filmmaker, historian, Founder and President of the Pacoima Historical Society, a digital library preserving the town’s history.

Crystal has authored several books telling the stories and history of Pacoima. “The Entrance: Pacoima’s Story” traces the 1500-year history of Pacoima, which is arguably LA’s oldest town. Her second book entitled “Not Colored,” is a historical novel based on the life of the first female to work in the detective unit of LAPD, an African American that migrated to Pacoima.

Crystal’s efforts were also how we came to discover the history of North Valley Broncos Little League team that we honored this year. Thank you Crystal for your work of preserving our community’s history.

I am proud to have been on the frontlines of the fight to pass the Inflation Reduction Act

For too long, American families have struggled with the rising costs of prescription medication. No one should have to decide between putting food on the table or affording a life-saving drug for themselves or a loved one.

Last year, Democrats in Congress took decisive action to lower the cost of prescription drugs and help alleviate some of the burdens families are facing. We did so with the Medicare Prescription Drug Inflation Rebate Program and the Drug Price Negotiation Program included in the Inflation Reduction Act. We can and must go farther, but it was a good start.
In my district, this critical legislation is helping tens of thousands of seniors who rely on Medicare see reductions in the cost of medication thanks to provisions like the annual $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket drug costs for seniors and the $35 cap on monthly insulin costs.

Yesterday, the Department of Healthcare and Human Services announced new lower prescription drug costs that will be implemented because of the Inflation Reduction Act’s rebate program. These lower costs on critical medications like insulin and vaccines will help relieve the financial burden for Californians on Medicare. That means Californians on Medicare will now see a reduction in their out-of-pocket costs for vaccines – going from $50 to $0 – and save an estimated $339 in annual out of pocket costs for insulin.

I am proud to have been on the frontlines of the fight to pass the Inflation Reduction Act and secure lower prescription drug costs for my constituents. While there is much, much more to be done to combat rising costs, this news is a promising step forward for Californians who rely on Medicare.

For too long, American families have struggled
